FAQs

1. Why should I enroll in a GMAT prep course when I can study on my own?

The GMAT is an extremely important – and difficult – test that will be the center point of your business school application. How well you do on this test will, without question, affect the rest of your life. It is the strongest predictor of how well you will perform in graduate school, it will help determine what schools you can get into, and could potentially make you eligible for lucrative score-related scholarships. It is well known that schools desire students with high GMAT scores and are willing to offset tuition costs for those students if they chose to attend their programs.

The GMAT score you get and the business school you attend will directly influence your future earning potential, sometimes to the tune of millions of dollars over the course of your career. Unless you have hours and hours and hours to prepare and are certain of your math and verbal abilities, it would be best to use a proven program to help you prepare and give yourself the best opportunity to succeed on the GMAT. Our program is proven and efficient, allowing you to get the highest score increase in the shortest amount of time. On top of that, we recognize that the GMAT is scary and that’s why we promise to be with you every step of the way during your preparation, to ensure you are understanding the material and improving your skills.

You don’t have to go at the GMAT alone or spend a boatload of money for professional help.

2. Will the GMAT Coach's course cover all of the stuff I need to know for my GMAT?

Yes! Our course is structured to get you prepared for the GMAT quicker than any other test prep company using a simple, but highly effective approach that focuses on where 99% of students need the most help – the quantitative section. We start with the basics, gradually building your GMAT skills repertoire using the Principle of Factor Sparsity and SPQ3R Study Technique. Although we spend the majority of our time reviewing the math part of the exam, the course also includes a healthy verbal section review.

3. How does your Home-Study Course program work?

We’ve designed the course to be as simple and straight-forward as possible. All you have to do is watch the videos and follow along. For each topic we have a section on the DVD that breaks it down for you and step-by-step teaches you exactly what the GMAT writers are trying to test and what specials skills or formulas you’ll need in order to master it.

A screen comes up that then asks you to pause the DVD at that exact point and go through the set of questions we’ve broken out for you for that specific topic. Just an aside, but when you attempt the questions it’s perfectly ok if you can’t get them all. Attempting them is extremely important though, as it helps us determine where and why you might be getting stuck. So, after attempting the questions, we come back together and go through them to determine exactly where you might have stumbled and how you can improve.

Remember, you are only allowed 2 minutes per question so it’s very important you know the quickest way to answer each one. We show you exactly how to do that. The material gradually builds upon itself until you are getting more and more questions right, which increases your confidence, which increases your score.

4. Can I really call/email/text/etc and get help 24/7?

Yep!….You can contact us at anytime! 95% of the time we’ll be able to help you right away, but if for some reason we can’t right at that moment, someone will get back to you quickly and make sure your question gets answered. We are also always available by email (thanks to our rockin iPhones!) at support@TheGmatCoach.com. We answer those super quick as well.

If we feel your question requires a more extensive explanation, we usually like to set-up a specific time with you to go over the details of it, so that we are able to fully work through the topic or answer with you. We usually like to do that through an online meeting, as it makes it extremely easy for you to learn. We set it all up for you. All you have to do is press a few buttons and we’re on our way. In a nut shell, we are always here for you and your questions will get answered quickly.

6. How much time after I finish the course should I take the official GMAT?

This varies for each individual, but if you follow the video and do the required problems, you should be ready to take the official GMAT as soon as the course is over – within one or two weeks. Studying for the GMAT is intense and requires energy, attention, and effort. Cramming for two days immediately before the test will result in decreased retention, nervousness, and a “what did I learn in the last two weeks?” feeling. We advise our students to take at least 2 computer-based GMAT practice tests before their official one, in order to get accustomed to the pressure and timing of the test. Finishing our course and taking the GMAT the next day doesn’t allow for that and it’s not something we advise.

7. Is there any time limit to how many days or months I can watch the videos or contact you for help?

Nope! You can watch our videos and contact us as much as you want. There are no “membership limits” that expire after 6 months or a year with us. We are here to help you succeed and will work with you to do so. If something happens where you need to postpone your test, you can still use our prep materials whenever you resume studying.

9. I am still unsure of when I am going to B-school, when should I start preparing for the GMAT?

Remember, your GMAT score is good for five years, so if you know – or even think – you want to go to business school; the time to take the GMAT is now. Just go ahead and get it over with so you don’t have to stress about it later. Taking it now will give you more time to study and create less stress during your prep. Plus if you decide to postpone, you can still use our materials to prep when you start back up.

10. What are the main differences between The GMAT Coach and Kaplan, Knewton Princeton Review, etc?

There are many companies that prepare students for their GMAT, and some do it quite well! Every company has their own approach and we encourage students to evaluate which program they think will best fit their individual needs. However, we have yet to found a company that offers a program like we do. The primary differences are:

  • Our experienced and educated instructors
  • Our researched and proven methods
  • The actual time it takes us to prepare you (a lot less than anywhere else)
  • The simplicity our program – just watch the videos and follow along
  • Our money back guarantee

Because of the abilities of our instructors, their experiences, and the extensive educational training they’ve gone through, we are able to provide a more ambitious curriculum that gets students better results in the quickest amount of time possible.

All in all, we think that our prep packages are pretty awesome and can do wonders for your GMAT score, especially when combined with our stellar study support. Sure, it’ll take a little bit of effort on your part, but we give you all the tools to help you rock your GMAT and are with you every step of the way.

12. Do you offer one-on-one tutoring? I'm not sold on DVD prep.

We get this question a lot. Understandably, many people are apprehensive about DVD prep, usually because they don't think it'll be very effective. Everyone, for some reason, thinks that one-on-one is better. From experience, we can tell you it isn't. It's expensive ($2000+), time consuming (you waste time driving to meet the teacher), and risky. There are many people who claim they are expert GMAT tutors, but the reality is is that there aren't many great ones out there. Our program is administered by superior GMAT tutors, it's less expensive, comes with great support, a money-back guarantee, and offers proof of real results (80+ point avg score increases). You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
